Maternity Leave Extension Letter

A maternity leave extension letter is written when you know that there a few problems that you might experience during your absence and you might not be able to make it back on the day you promised your organization.

In such cases you write a letter to your boss or your HR manager in order to inform them of your absence and how you will be unable to make it back to work on the day you promised them.

In such letters your tone must be extremely formal and everything should be to the point. Therefore, simply explain to the organization how you will not be able to make it back in time and what are the reasons? Make sure that you enter the date on which you previously promised to come back and also the date on which you will be coming back next.

Dear Sir,

I know that I had already informed you about my maternity leaves and how I will be joining work within a month’s time period. However, I am writing this letter to you to let you know that it will be impossible for me to make it back to work before the 6th November 2013. There were a few complications during this time period and I had to go through an operation. That is why it will not be possible for me to make it back to work on the day I promised. Therefore, it is requested that you extend my leave from 6th November 2013 to 20th November 2013 because I will not be able to come to work during this time period.

Thanks in advance,

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Luke
