Plot
After his home is conquered by the tyrannical emperors who now rule Rome, Lucius is forced to enter the Colosseum and must look to the past to find the strength to restore Rome’s glory to its people. In the years following the release of the first film, there were many attempts to write a sequel. Musician Nick Cave was brought in to write a version by Russell Crowe and Sir Ridley Scott. His version focused on the more mythical elements of ancient Rome and saw Maximus arriving in the afterlife, only to face other souls yet to ascend. Eventually, Jupiter and the other Roman deities task him with returning to Earth to find and kill Hephaestus, the former god who betrayed them. From there, he is resurrected as a Christian and returns to Rome, with a mission to stop the spread of Christianity, while crossing paths with the new emperor, Lucius. The film would have ended with Maximus being cursed to live forever, with a montage of soldiers fighting in the Crusades, World War II and the Vietnam War, eventually revealing a modern Maximus working in the Pentagon in Washington.

Featured on The 7PM Project: Episode from July 3, 2024 (2024). I watched the premiere in Sydney. The story is richer and more emotional than the first part. Everyone’s acting is great, Paul did a great job! Denzel has great comedic talent and brought a lot of funny lines. Personally, I didn’t think it was bloody at all. There are a lot of fight scenes and it’s very cool.
To sum up the cons: 1
The ending is very emotional and there are many touching parts. Some of the dialogue changes too often. Personally, I don’t like this method of editing. I prefer to use a slightly longer shot to focus on one person (preferably the main character) so that I can capture the slight changes in the person’s face during the dialogue. 2. The seawater in the front is a bit too realistic to look artificial. The seawater is too blue and perfect, which often has the opposite effect.

3. In terms of historical rationality, I don’t think people at the time had a certain understanding of the concept and appearance of the god of death. This is a script adapted from history. There is no need to care about the originality of the script. Therefore, there is no need to worry about whether the second one is a remake of the first. People say they want to see a sequel, but they don’t want the script to be too related to the previous one. This statement itself is contradictory.
But the second one clearly states that it is an adaptation
If we are to see a completely different story, we should list it as the original script. You can rate the adaptation of the script, but if you’re not happy with its originality, maybe you should rewrite the story.
