Plot
An aging gangster tries to reconnect with his children and right the wrongs of his past, but the criminal underworld doesn’t loosen its grip willingly. Liam Neeson started boxing at 9 and boxed at the amateur level until he was 17. A definitive diagnosis of CTE can only be made with brain tissue after a person’s death.

It’s certainly slow, but it feels good

I was expecting another Liam Neeson-driven action flick, but this is a more thoughtful film. You really feel like the guy at the end regrets his life choices.
You also feel like he was meant to be in this life
I think the development of Liams’ character over the course of the film builds your feelings for him. He’s a flawed/violent guy who eventually becomes increasingly desperate to reconcile with the family he’s estranged from. The film deals a lot with intergenerational abuse and neglect and the chaos and struggle that leads to generation after generation.
I also felt like the film was exceptionally well written
If you’re willing to take your time and enjoy Neeson’s more subtle performances, you should enjoy this.
