In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein enlists Dr. Euphronius’ help in creating a companion. They bring a murdered woman to life as a bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change. In January 2024, during the Governors’ Awards Gala (an honorary lifetime achievement award given by the same Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that gives out the Academy Awards), comedian John Mulaney humorously told the story of how he was asked to audition for a small role in this film: “Ladies and gentlemen, you’re looking at me and thinking, ‘Oh, great. I know who one of those people is.” “There is no script available at this time.” Okay, I’m listening. “I’m waiting, waiting for your response to the material.
